Circuit flow.
This page explores the early development behind Circuit Flow, following the search for rhythm, movement and perspective within a racing circuit.
Each study investigates how flowing architecture, changing elevation and the racing line combine to create a composition that feels alive.
Every annotation records a small decision that gradually shaped the finished illustration.

02. Breakdown of Details
Every finished illustration is built through a series of focused studies. Rather than refining the entire drawing at once, each sketch explores a single element of composition, movement or texture before contributing to the final artwork.
Exploring proportion, simplified aerodynamics and an aggressive front-facing stance before establishing the
final illustration.
Architectural studies balancing layered stonework, perspective and surrounding detail to frame the composition.
Finding the correct balance of the proportions of the 90's Formula car, with the distinctive oversized wheels and harsh angles.
Exploring the shape and rhythm of the circuit, simplifying complex corners into flowing curves that naturally guide the eye through the composition.
Testing grandstand textures, fencing and trackside elements to introduce atmosphere while keeping attention centred on the racing line.
03. Final Artwork
Created digitally using the original sketchbook study as a foundation, while preserving the expressive hand-drawn character.

Every garment carries the finished illustration exactly as it was intended,
celebrating the original hand-drawn artwork rather than concealing it.

" I believe the strongest pieces of art are often built from dozens of small refinements, rather than one perfect drawing. "
The challenge with Circuit Flow was to make the track distinctive to the eye of every motorsport enthusiast, whilst creating it in an abstract style I am proud of. I didn't want it to be perfect, I wanted it to be memorable in my own style. This meant adding abstract areas to the piece where I felt I could be creative, yet keep the overall piece easily recognisable.
