This study explores the movement hidden within a racing circuit. Rather than focusing on the cars alone, the sketches examine how barriers, camber and changing direction naturally guide the eye through the composition.
Each drawing isolates a different part of the circuit, allowing individual details to be refined before combining them into a single illustration.
Every annotation records a small observation that influenced the final artwork.

02. Breakdown of Details
Every finished illustration is built through a series of focused studies. Rather than refining the entire drawing at once, each sketch explores a single element of composition, movement or texture before contributing to the final artwork.
Exploring proportion, simplified aerodynamics and an aggressive front-facing stance before establishing the
final illustration.
Architectural studies balancing layered stonework, perspective and surrounding detail to frame the composition.
Small adjustments to wheel size, body shape and perspective helped create recognisable forms without losing the loose sketchbook style.
Exploring the shape and rhythm of the circuit helped simplify complex corners into flowing curves that naturally guide the eye through the composition.
Testing subtle standing areas and trackside elements that helped keep the attention centred on the track and the cars.
03. Final Artwork
Created digitally using the original sketchbook study as a foundation, while preserving the expressive hand-drawn character.

With this study, I wanted the circuit to guide your eye just as much as the cars themselves. The sweeping barriers and changing direction became the foundation of the illustration, allowing the feeling of speed to come from the track rather than relying entirely on the vehicles.
