Street Studies No. 001

Kensington scene.

This study explores the character of a Kensington street through its architecture, details and the car sitting naturally within the scene.

Rather than focusing on the vehicle alone, the surrounding environment became part of the composition.

Each element was observed separately before being brought together, allowing the building, street and car to feel connected within a single illustration.

" Every street has a character.
Every detail helps tell its story."

02. Breakdown of Details

Every finished illustration is built through a series of focused studies. Rather than refining the entire drawing at once, each sketch explores a single element of composition, movement or texture before contributing to the final artwork.

Exploring proportion, simplified aerodynamics and an aggressive front-facing stance before establishing the

final illustration.

Architectural studies balancing layered stonework, perspective and surrounding detail to frame the composition.

Studying the proportions, stance and character of the Mini to ensure the vehicle feels naturally placed within the scene.

Exploring the proportions and details of the townhouse, from the traditional façade to the greenery surrounding the entrance.

Testing windows, brickwork and decorative elements to capture the character and period of the surrounding architecture.

03. Final Artwork

Created digitally using the original sketchbook study as a foundation, while preserving the expressive hand-drawn character.

04. On The Garment

Every garment carries the finished illustration exactly as it was intended,

celebrating the original hand-drawn artwork rather than concealing it.

05. Artist's Notes

" The car was only one part of the scene. The real challenge was making it feel as though it belonged there."

Kensington Scene was focused on bringing a street to life, looking like it could be living within the pencil lines.

I wanted to create a real sense everything in the sketch belonged together, from the city car to drive around tight London streets, to the historic brickwork that had stood strong for years.

It's one of my favourite pieces so far due to it being so close to the feeling of home, even in its abstract form it has captured that for me.
